Ben’s team had another banner day yesterday, putting away their game with a 5-0 win. I was impressed that the team seemed to find a bit of growth this week, with a passing game becoming more evident.

We stuck around for another games. Our neighbors daughter had a game right after ours and we wanted to add our support. They has a little striker named Oscar who’s gunning to be the next soccer superstar. Kid scored something on the order of 10 goals before he was pulled from the game to give the other team a chance. It was pretty amazing to watch, the kid clearly has talent…but little in the way of sportsmanship. He was rather…”vocal” at being pulled.

Still, it was a fun afternoon.

That’s great. My son’s season was over last week. They rarely have more than 2-4 goals from one team in a game. We often have 1-0, 2-1 type games.

We have one kid who got mouthy with the coach during the second to last game. He was complaining that the coach wasn’t putting him back in. Despite playing half the first half. The problem is he won’t pass the ball. The typical ball hog, when he gets it, he drives to the goal. He is pretty good, I am guessing he has played competitive, but he never scores because he’s a solo artist.

The coach explained that in HS his coach will bench him if he mouths off like that.

We have one tool in town who helps run the soccer program. Thinks his kids are the next Landon Donovan and Mia Hamm; forced his 12 yo daughter onto the boys’ U12 ‘A’ team last year.

Future (10 year old) not-Landon-Donovan last spring was red carded from a game after arguing with a ref over an offsides call. Dad was assistant coach of the team, and was soon red carded himself. Both apparently needed mouth soap for their bluster. ‘F’ words! From both of them! This is in a 10 year old league!

Apparently they were the first two red cards ever given in the league for non-contact.

You know what they say; the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…
