Who else aside from Bush actually wants Rummy to stay?

Why?

The line calling for the man’s papers is getting longer and starting to leak into Congress.

With the ‘06 Elections just around the corner, I can’t imagine why Bush would allow him to stay on.

I’m honestly curious about this. I really don’t have a clue as to the current political strategy of the Bush Admin., it’s been a mystery to me since early ‘05. I’d be interested in hearing opinion on it.

  1. I think that Bush and Cheney like Rummy - that he executes a strategy that they truly agree with, and directed - and feel that the current quagmire, um, Iraq situation is better handled by a guy that they know and trust and agree with than a guy that they have to vet with Senate Republicans and at least 5 Democrats. They obviously feel that he is not enough of a liability to lose the House in November, or he’d be gone.

Rummy takes a lot of the shit for them on Iraq and I think that they know that nobody else would.

About the only thing that I can think of.
