A few of the perks came up in the warehouse gig today…and made me start to think about just staying back there.
I know I’ll probably regret it, but it does come up more and more often now.

Jo actually got a sitters for the boys tomorrow night.
I’m not used to this feeling.
I’m getting into the swing of things with the warehouse. There’s just so much in the way of “little stuff” that you don’t really associate with the job that keep popping up. Nothing tragic or job-altering, but they put a crimp in things all the same.
We hired a new young lad for the shop proper. I know him and he’s always been a nice kid. I guess I’m a little bothered by the fact that we’re filling up the front of the shop like this, “forcing” me to stay in the back, but I started thinking about the overall position.
In a lot of ways, the warehouse job is more family friendly. My schedule is pretty much my own and I can come and go almost as I please. I’ve also been told (more than once) that there’s “more money” to be made in the warehouse position. Mind you, the money isn’t the primary factor in all of this, but it’s a nice bonus to the work.
That really does not sound right for some reason.
Anyway, I can work at my own pace, by myself, listen to liberal radio all day…it’s not all that bad in that respect.
I feel like I’m trying to talk myself into the position on some level. In reality, it could solve some other issues that I have at the shop. No matter if I do the shipping or someone else, I still get called on for customer service. If I were to do it, I know the level of service people are getting to begin with. Also, I know the system going into the position, and getting someone new means training from the ground up…again, something I would need to do.
OK, so now I’m rambling.
Felt pretty good, actually. I laughed.
Just damn busy.
I’ll update later tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy your new PC, bud.
Well I can now attribute several of the smaller odd problems I was having with the old PowerBook to the bad HD. None of the same issues have cropped up with this unit.
The transition is going well, and aside for Office, I’ve yet to find an application that I “miss” from my PC. I’ll have to get a copy of Office eventually, but with all of the bundled apps on the Mac, it’s not a pressing issue.
I am somewhat curious as to why they include the entire iLife suite, several high-end outlining and project management apps, but not a copy of AppleWorks (which is bundled on the iBook). I suppose they think that anyone with a PowerBook is in the more “professional” market and is going to buy a copy of Office eventually?
But honestly, TextEdit is nearly all I need for basic stuff. It can be a bit clunky at times, and there are some really sweet features on the new Mac Office that I’m eager to try out.
I just learned that Johnny Ramone died yesterday afternoon. Five years fighting prostate cancer. Only 55.
All the greats.
No way do I want to get stuck back there in the warehouse.
I am not enjoying this.
I’ll do it to get us part this period, but I will not make it my calling.
Yeah, the new guy.
Part of me thinks that he was under the mistaken impression that working in a game store meant playing games all day or something.
Good of him to let us know now in this “trial period” of his, but still. Trying to get someone up to speed yet again…that will be fun.
Looks like I’m stuck in the warehouse for awhile longer.
